If you work for a nonprofit you've probably seen some pretty scary stuff! One of the scariest things I've seen? A draft "bequest letter" that had been circulating around the office for a YEAR before I started consulting with the organization. They'd made this letter so complicated and convoluted it was scary! I didn't even want to look at it. I didn't. Instead, I started fresh and wrote a new letter that they sent to a niche group of donors. Their cost was not scary at all. A fee for my services, postage and paper.
Yesterday, NonprofitMarketingGuide.com's Kivi Leroux Miller and I hosted a webinar -- Marketing Makeover Magic, and we asked participants to send us their SCARIEST stuff. Hideous newsletters, freakishly boring fundraising appeals and other scary marketing materials. It was a lot of fun.
